SugarFISH Studio City Opens Today

The Valley will get a little bit of Nozawa back when SugarFISH
Studio City opens today in the former location of Sushi Nozawa.  Enjoy
the story behind the space courtesy of the team at SugarFISH:

“SugarFISH
announces its much-anticipated Studio City location (11228 Ventura
Blvd, Studio City, CA) will open its doors today (Wednesday, May 16th)
at 11:30am.

The location has special importance to
SugarFISH.  Chef Kazunori Nozawa, co-founder and president of SugarFISH,
opened his legendary namesake restaurant, Sushi Nozawa, in the same
space 25 years ago. The restaurant received rave reviews and
consistently placed in the top tier of Zagat’s overall food ratings and
garnered a dedicated and enthusiastic following among Nozawa’s
customers. Sushi Nozawa also helped to establish what’s known as “Sushi
Row” in Studio City, a one-mile stretch of Ventura Blvd. that is home to
some of LA’s most highly-acclaimed sushi restaurants.

“After
making sushi behind the bar at Sushi Nozawa for 25 years, it was
difficult to close the doors, but I’m excited that SugarFISH will
continue my legacy of authentic sushi of the very best quality,”said
Chef Nozawa. “I have always felt I have the best customers, and I invite
them all to come visit the new SugarFISH.”

Sushi
Nozawa closed its doors on February 29, 2012. Once word spread that
Nozawa would be closing his restaurant, thousands of his long-time
fans– including more than 500 on the last day alone — came for one
last chance to relish a meal at this 25-seat mecca of sushi. The
closing, according to the New York Times, marked “the end of an era, the
departure of a chef whose advocacy of traditional Japanese sushi swept
across sushi restaurants through California.”

The restaurant’s interiors were redesigned by Glen Bell of DEX Studio,
and will feature the collection of famed “Trust Me” art that was given
to Nozawa by his admiring customers who embraced his signature
omakase-style and that hung behind the bar at Sushi Nozawa.

The
restaurant will be open seven days a week, serving lunch and dinner.
Valet parking will be available daily from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and from
5:30 pm to 10:30 pm.”
