DEX Studio is excited to announce the opening of SugarFISH Downtown LA. DEX designs each SugarFISH restaurant to have a unique feel that reflects its surrounding environment. The Downtown location, in the heart of LA’s Restaurant Row, is no exception. DEX employed its signature warm and modern aesthetic with a strong focus on the restaurant’s urban location and the building’s historic standing to create an understated, yet dynamic design.

With cleverly engineered circular cut-outs in the ceiling, DEX sought to highlight the building’s structural concrete columns and original ceiling structure, which date back to 1915. To tie the restaurant to its urban location on 7th and Grand, DEX employed industrial materials throughout the space. This is most evident in SugarFISH’s centerpiece, a thirty-five foot stretch of wall covered in over 5,000 feet of softly undulating, hand-bent carbon steel pipe that references a topographical map of Tokyo Bay.
