Rose Residence

MAR VISTA, CA

We were challenged to create a home on a site that affords views of the ocean in the low hills of Mar Vista. The sloped site limited the size of a rear yard, so we conceived the home as two parts, a main dwelling and a rear accessory structure that is built into the hillside. The main house contains living and sleeping spaces for the family.  The living spaces on the ground floor open to a pool and recreation space set into the hill.  Bleacher steps and platforms connect the rear and upper yards and offer a spectator view to the activity below. An ADU at the top rear of the site is perched to face the views to the West.
